New Features Of Business Telephone Systems

One of the most important components in running a successful business is having a reliable business telephone system. With the present state of technology available today, the list of business communications applications seem endless.

Whether you choose a standard PSTN (public switched telephone network) solution or VOIP (Voice over internet Protocols) based, or both, this is an important step for your business. You do not go out, and buy business telephones every day. It is, perhaps, a once in every one or two years process, and a relatively simple one. You list down your business communications requirements, and compare them to the services available from your local telecom. Now match the resultant list to the type of systems available on the market. You might weigh some features higher from the others depending on what you want out of your telephone system.

Standard features Auto attendant is usually an electronic voice that presents callers with a list of options to route their call (most units have the option of recording your own list). It also allows callers to dial their required extension directly.

Conferencing Features allow two, or more extensions to connect together to share in a conversation. Usually, this is two but can be increased based on the capability of the unit.

Voice Mail Message Option allows voice recorded messages to be left for employees that are occupied at that instant. Based on the capacity of the unit, these voice messages can also be sent to your mail inbox.

Voice Mail allows messages to be left for employees that are unavailable at that moment. Based on the capability of the unit, these messages can also be delivered to your mail inbox. Call Hold is the ability to put a call on hold while the users are unavailable. You can have them listen to music, or a company slogan. This is usually programmable. Call Forwarding gives the user the ability to forward calls to another extension, or to voice mail.

Call Forwarding Option gives the user the capability to forward calls to an additional extension, or to their desired voice mail. Speed Dial Option is a single, or two button arrangements for regularly called numbers.

Redial Option allows the previous number called to be redialled with the stroke of a push button. Paging Option allocates a user to converse over a public address system to trace a member of staff, or give broadcast. Melody on Hold Option gives your callers somewhat to listen to at the same time, as they are on hold. It can be music, or pre-recorded communication messages. Backup Power Option will make available an alternate resource of electricity (generally a built in function, although you can add a UPS to the unit). This differs from unit to unit.

Advanced Features Remote Location feature allows connections to offsite employees or small remote offices by dialling an internal extension. Find Me / Follow Me permits users to forward their phone, on demand, to another phone, cell phone, home phone, secretary, etc. Computer Telephone Integration (CTI) provides the ability for the phone system to interact with a computer system. Phone systems with more advanced features tend to be rather expensive, and vary from manufacturer to manufacturer.
