Celebrate Valentine’s Day – Home Decor

Posted By on February 7, 2010

February fourteenth is one of the most anticipated days in the year. Valentine’s Day is a day when florists see their business flower, chocolatiers find that their products have sweet returns, and greeting card companies end the day on a sweet note. Yes, there are tons of things you can buy or say that make the day special for that someone in your life, but what can you do at home that will make the day a little more romantic?

Decorating your home with paper hearts and little ceramic Cupids is one way to make your space cheery, but if you want something a little more…sensual, why not decorate in satins, silks, deep colors and luscious aromas?

Satins and silks are commonly associated with love and romance. These fabrics have such an amazing texture and feel so good on the skin that feeling all lovey-dovey has never been more wonderful. Satin sheets are great for sleeping on but they’re also nice to use as a picnic spread that you can set out for your home-cooked Valentine’s Day dinner. Snuggling after a delicious meal is real yummy.

Love doesn’t have to be symbolized by bright pinks and purples. Deep, rich colors in reds and purples can lend an air of sensuality that you just won’t find surrounded by shocking pinks and pastel lilacs.

Enhance the air of romance in your home by its smell. You can bathe yourself in perfume but if your place smells of chicken, it just ruins the mood. You don’t want to envision chicken being roasted. You want to see love, romance, sexy. Try something quite strong to make the scent last. Spraying air deodorizer every five minutes is horrifying! What are you, cleaning? Go for several scented candles. Choose your favorite scents and buy a couple for each fragrance for a more potent smell. Best for a romantic evening are the relaxing fragrance of lavender, vanilla and lilac. You can also go natural with fresh flowers. Also, make use of the flower petals (of course, you can never go wrong with red roses) by scattering them throughout your home to add some props to the scene.

Isn’t it a bummer that Valentine’s Day is at the height of winter? Unless you’re in a tropical island, cozy late night walks under the stars will remain a dream. On a brighter note, this season calls for a lot of snuggling, hugging and kissing. Make the most of it by turning down the heater and let the fireplace be your guardian. Keeping each other warm can never be more exciting.

Valentine’s Day is made even more unforgettable with lovely presents and special plans to celebrate. Making your home into a Valentine’s Day haven is in itself a memorable celebration for you as a couple. But it’s not only limited to this day. Transform your abode into Valentine’s Day everyday of the year with sensual dark colors, fabrics and aromas.

Rug decorating just got even simpler with these heart shaped colored area rugs.
